Unit 2: Relationships
Portraiture: Printmaking
I connected this project to relationships by focusing on the relationship between my roommate and I. We have been roommates every year I have been at college and the first word I can think of to describe our relationship is comfort. I was thinking about what image would represent how safe and understood I feel when we are together, and I decided on a child holding a blanket. I used this print twice on colored paper, and twice on a picture of my roommate and I. I like this project for a classroom because I think the styrofoam and pen print is easy for kids to make and easy for teachers to find the supplies (and cheap). I think this would be a great project to talk about relationships between animals for a science lesson, whether it is predator/ prey relationships, symbiotic relationships, or others.
Pop Up Homes and Habitats
This project represented relationships for me because it made me reflect on the relationship between me and my home. I chose to make the house I grew up in that my parents still live in, and I made it pretty realistic even in terms of where I placed everything. I used construction paper for the pop up, crayons, and magazine cut outs to create this project. If I was going to use this project in my own classroom, I was thinking it would be really cool to make pop ups of animal's habitats for science. Each child could find an animal to research their habitat, create a pop up, and share their findings with the class. They could even write a short paragraph or few sentences about what they learned to incorporate writing. As an example of an animal habitat pop up, I used the pocket idea to make an anthill.
